Elim Church Preschool provides both an indoor and outdoor learning environment for the children.  Relevant, appropriate and interesting activities are provided to the children using an extensive knowledge of the child’s interests and current stage of development; which is gained through a positive two-way flow of information with parents and observations of the children during their play and exploration.

The environment is set up to encourage child independence; selecting and managing their own activities is important for their Personal Social and Emotional development.  The activities provided daily include, sand, water, painting, creative, writing, play dough, role play, construction and small world.  Whilst accessing these areas of play the children are provided with the basis to develop understanding in the Areas of Learning specified in the Early Years Foundation Stage.  Sensitive and appropriate adult intervention and support provided whilst the children play, enable children to move their thinking forward and gain a deeper level of understanding then they currently possess.

We also encourage the children to be aware of the dangers around them and to manage their own health and safety, using age appropriate resources, role play situations and whilst out and about in the community.

At Elim Church Preschool we have a well-established and embedded policy valuing diversity + promoting equality.  We encourage participation for all children and endeavour to meet their individual care and learning requirements to ensure that they achieve the best possible outcomes.  Our practice is supported by outside agencies, where necessary and positive parental relationships.  Appropriate behaviour is promoted and this is discussed with the children so that they understand what is required and why.

Nutritious, healthy snacks are provided free of charge to the children on a daily basis and drinking water is always available.
